The hand-picked grapes are sourced from selected vineyards in the Dao region south of the Douro Valley, where old vines are tended traditionally in granite soil. The grapes undergo a cold, pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days, followed by a final alcoholic fermentation lasting around 4 days. The wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation, and is then matured for 12 months in (2nd year) French and Russian oak.

Immediately juicy with lots of bramble fruits and polished aromatics. Underlying savoury and herbal character with silky, supple black fruit. Soft tannins with hints of pine and vanilla on the elegant finish.

Goes well with grilled beef or lamb or robust stew. For a veggie alternative try with spinach and lentil casserole.

Textured and luxurious this is a sophisticated Cabernet Franc from Gard. There is a wild 'after the rain' woodland perfume, with menthol and truffley hints. The palate is incredibly long and layered with bramble fruit, earthy peppery layers and a touch of sweet prune on the finish.

Juicy lamb shanks, rich tomato based dishes laced with roasted garlic and pepper, marinated steak with mashed potato and green beans or savour it at the end of the meal over a good cheeseboard.

I am thrilled to have discovered a fantastic red and white from the Pays d'Oc that really deliver exceptional value and seriously good quality. This is our go to weekday red.  La Foule Pinot Noir comes from selected vineyards in the Languedoc region of southern France. It is a wonderful wine with lovely aromas of violet and red fruits and a velvety palate with a long and supple vanilla finish due to a proportion of the blend being matured with French oak.

Attractively aromatic with fresh red fruits, floral notes, and hints of sweet spice. The palate offers ripe plum and damson characters balanced by a lightly earthy, savoury complexity with finely-grained tannins.

Rich meat stew; pasta with fresh pesto, aubergine and smoked bacon.

This fresh, dry white is a blend of varieties indigenous to Portugal’s Douro valley including Arinto (known to retain freshness even in hot conditions) and Gouveio (known as Godello in northern Spain). Made by  Bernardo Lencastre, this wonderful white has citrus aromas with delicate floral notes and hints of white peach. I love this wine – it’s a crisp with apple and lemon peel flavours, a juicy acidity, and a refreshing finish.

Intense ruby red in colour with purple hues. On the nose, aromas of morello and marasca cherries pervade, with notes of small red berries and sweet spices. The palate is mineral and balanced with a long, mouthwatering finish. Recommended for fans of Pinot noir or good Valpolicella. This delivers both lightness of touch with depth of flavour. Serve chilled. Great even with fish dishes, but especially good with seared Tuna!

The creation of this wine was a judicious blending exercise to marry aromatics and lift with a generous, velveteen palate. Grapes are sourced from vineyards across Southeast Australia. They are picked at night to avoid high daytime temperatures and crushed immediately after picking. Temperature-controlled fermentation avoids extraction of harsh tannins and maintains the juicy fruit flavours.

Finding a really fabulous Sauvignon Blanc to spearhead our "Quaff" wine list meant delving deep into the Languedoc. This is produced in Gascony and as its name implies, it's a real belter. Packed with lovely citrus fruit, this is bright, clean and very crisp. Your perfect fridge door wine. Only 11% abv.

Wine Merchant Magazine, June 2024: "Maybe a Sauvignon Blanc at 11% isn't a prospect to set the indie pulse racing, and we were prepared to be a little underwhelmed by this Cotes de Gascogne bottling. Yet what a pleasant bank holiday surprise it turned out to be, with its subtle grass and grapefruit undertones and easy going freshness. Despite the name, it's not really big, but it is quite clever."

If you like some lovely oaky flavours in your Chardonnay then this is the wine for you. It is incredible value for money. Tast this blind and you may well be fooled into thinking this is a gorgeous white Burgundy at twice the price. The finish lasts for ever. Definetly worth a try. 

   Generous and smooth black fruit lifted by the freshness of high-altitude vineyards, combining tinta roriz (90%) (tempranillo) and scented, structured touriga nacional (10%) in this pork- and charcuterie-friendly red. A real crowd pleaser.

sappy with crushed Morello cherries and a cranberry tang. An approachable, crunchy young red with a
touch of spice on the finish.

dishes and fresh summer salads.

A refreshing and fragrant Cabernet with fresh and bright flavours of blackcurrant. Silky textured, lifted on the mid-palate and with a smooth ripe finish.
