A tight, minerally wine with classic Hamilton Russell Vineyards length and complexity. Unusually prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality. An elegant, yet textured and intense wine with a strong personality of both place and vintage.

On low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, in a cool maritime mesoclimate, naturally tiny yields of well under 35 hl/ha give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of this Pinot Noir. The wine is not overtly fruity but it is soft and generous and shows hints of alluring savoury “primal” character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume. Classy and classic.

Cult wine! Comprised of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cinsault and even a little Viognier, the fruit is sourced from all over the Cape area with each vineyard selected for the best quality fruit. You are enticed into the glass with a complex bouquet of blackcurrants, raspberries and mocha… On the palate, the wine explodes with black fruits, exotic spices, violets and vanilla. Full bodied most certainly! But the weight and supple tannins are well integrated, making this a very drinkable, extremely crowd-pleasing wine. 

Legendary wine from a legendary estate, this really is the stuff of legends! Since the Judgement of Paris, Clos du Val have been setting the standard for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This is bold, plush, rich and ripely fruited, and just hugs you like a bear. When Bordeaux becomes a little blasé, you go to Napa for some blue-sky thinking.
