A family domaine based in Saulheim, Rheinhessen. The vineyards lie on a mixture of light clay, limestone red sandy loam and in places flint and schist. All vineyard management is now undertaken organically with a move to biodynamic imminent, (a brave step given that a lot of producers in the area still believe this to be akin to witchcraft!) In the cellar, this ethos is sustained by allowing natural ferments and minimal handling.
The grapes were harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and after fermentation the wine spends 10 months in old oak barrels to enhance texture and mouthfeel.
Intense aromas of wild berries and cherries with fine ripe tannins and delicate hints of spicy oak. A real showcase for the quality and value that comes from top German Pinot noir.
