Muga is arguably the most traditional bodega in Rioja. It’s based next to the old railway station, in the heart of old Haro, and there’s not a stainless-steel tank in sight. They even have their own cooper on site to give their barrels the perfect amount of toasting. Unsurprisingly, this Reserva is a real classic. It’s a masterclass in winemaking, spending 36 months in oak with a further 9 months resting in the bottle before release. Richly complex, with blackberry, vanilla, coffee and a hint of spice. There's fantastic structure here - supple, ripe tannins and deep fruit. It’ll easily last for a decade, but is wonderfully smooth and delicious now. . Heaven with rack of lamb.
