In the heart of the Rhone Valley, Vacqueyras is an appellation oft overlooked in favour of its more famous cousins of Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape, but delivers wines of equal power and poise. This superb example shows deep, smoky, developed aromas of black fruits and warm spice, opening into game and mushroom notes. Fine yet voluminous black fruits on the palate, followed by liquorice, black pepper, and earthy tones. Excellent structure and a lifted finish. Truly a wine with great class, to be matched with equally classy food. Roasted game with all the trimmings would be ideal.
