Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir, Oregon
Winemaker Jason Lett's father was among the first handful of people to plant Pinot Noir in Oregon in the 1960's. What a revolution they started! From the original sites in the much-lauded Dundee Hills appelation in Oregon, where volcanis deposits mix with sandstone on ancient soils, this is a bright red beauty with a subtle smoky aroma and deep, complex fruit notes. Taut and focused on the palate, reminiscent of fresh strawberry jam, wild herbs and a winter fireside, all complimented with a lovely underlying spicy-earthiness. With super-fine tannins and a satisfyingly long finish, this is a classic representation for the lover of ageworthy Pinot noir. Give it time to breathe before drinking - this is really a wine that evolves over a number of hours, so don't miss out on the myriad layers by rushing things. Savour. Enjoy.
Under correct storage this wine can age beautifully for another 10 years + developing further notes of earth, truffle and game.
