A wonderful biological wine from Clos Roussely, in Touraine in the Loire Valley. From 80+ year old vines on the legendary tuffeau chalk soils, this gives a quite different expression of Sauvignon to the flint of Sancerre or Pouilly Fumé. Since 2007 Vincent Rouselly has farmed his vineyards by hand tractor and horse (only), and, as a result, has seen the health of his vineyards, swards and grapes improve immeasurably, which naturally has a direct influence on the wines he produces. Planted mainly to Sauvignon Blanc, the soil is a mixture of clay and limestone with pockets of Silex where his oldest vineyards are situated. Fermented in winemaker-developed steel globes, and aged for 1 year before bottling. Pale yellow with silver reflections, it has a delicate nose that gradually reveals aromas of sweet-pea florals and citrus. On the palate, light exotic fruits blend with whitecurrant and gooseberry for something extremely elegant and moreish. Utterly exquisite and a refreshing difference for Loire Sauvignon.
