From the Hemel en Aarde Valley, known as one of South Africa's best sites for cool climate grapes growing. Winemaker Kevin Grant of Ataraxia combines Pinotage with Cinsault and Pinot Noir so as to create his own take on a light red blend.
The nose of the 2017 shows a touch of smokiness, leading to cherries, plums, vanilla and white pepper. The palate is marked by succulent fruit, fresh acidity and crunchy tannins, with the finish nicely dry. Intriguing, as always from this stellar winemaker. Ataraxia translates from Greek to mean 'A serene state of mind, free from pre-occupation and distraction'. We like a wine that delivers that. 13% abv
