Valdaya Mirum, Ribera del Duero
This tiny operation is run a young winemaking couple, Marta Ramas and Miguel Fisac, who work with a mere 12 hectares from which they make two wines. Mirum is 100% Tempranillo grown on 50-80 year old bush vines, vinified in separate parcels using indigenous yeasts. Maceration continues for 28 days in barrel before the free-run wine of each parcel passes into a selection of new barrels according to their potential for ageing - 90% French oak, 10% Hungarian oak, 6 different coopers. All vineyard sites lie at around the 900 meter altitude mark. "A rich and plush Ribera del Duero red, in which a big stack of tannins are beautifully integrated, giving it some real textural complexity that runs right through the complex, savory and mineral finish. Drink or hold." 94 pointsJames Suckling
Summertime Claret! This lovely Bordeaux blend strikes the perfect balance for a summer red; fresh blackcurrant, berries and red plum, with a leafiness and perfume that brings brightness to the palate. Medium body and light tannin. A touch of cedar and spice from time in bottle gives depth and leads to impressive length on the finish. An easy food pair to meats, cheeses and flavourful vegetable dishes.
Pasquiers Rose, Pays d'Oc
Grenache and Cinsault blend from the sunny Pays d'Oc. Fruit-forward and rounded, with surprising texture and concentration for a rose at this price point. We worked hard to find it! Strawberry and spice, with a lengthy finish. A great aperitif, but equally good for sunny lunches.
I can vividly remember the first time I tasted this. Mercurey is at the southern end of Burgundy, over an hours drive due south from Beaune, and it gets warmer and the grapes riper. As such the Chardonnay is wonderfully rich, ripe, and powerful, but due to Faiveley prowess nothing is allowed to go to extremes. They have managed to harness the power with soft oak ageing to produce a really single vineyard masterpiece. Treat yourself!

Tenuta San Guido
Guidalberto Tenuta San Guido 2015
From these legendary winemakers who broke the rules in Tuscany, Guidalberto has great energy and length with an aroma of dark fruits and spices with nuances of violets, roses and a hint of tobacco. Smooth textures and deep plum fruits combine with a crunchy redcurrant character and a hint of dark chocolate to create a wonderfully balanced wine with excellent definition. Plenty enough going on to improve for another decade in bottle.
Senorio de Sarria
Senorio de Sarria Crianza, Navarra
From the Navarra region, right next to Rioja, this is a deep and rewarding blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Spanish grapes Garnacha and Graciano. Like Rioja, but with more structure and black fruit flavours. One of our bestselling sub £10 wines - a brilliant all-rounder.
