From the subregionof Wanaka in the heart of Central Otago, famed for its ancient soil strata. Ripe and intense plum fruit with subtle cinnamon spice lift defines the nose. The concentration of the primary fruit aromatics builds with airing, giving further dimension. Licorice and lavender florals elegantly unfold into a gentle gamey bouquet. Generous and succulent with a silky and supple tannin texture, and juicy acidity giving impressive length and persistence. Brightness and approachability are the driving force of this wine, however a hint of complexity we have come to expect from this vineyard adds a layer of real and intriguing character to the fruit depth.

This exquisite and superb-value wine has a fine, elegant nose of fresh red-cherry fruit and sweet spice, and a perfumed bouquet with hints of pot pourri, raspberry tea and red liquorice. Developing notes of leather and tobacco. The balanced acidity – one of López de Heredia’s trademarks – is astonishing, as is its complexity and freshness, while the finish is enduring, mouthcoating and intense. A true masterpiece of Rioja winemaking.

Proper Barolo, from a single vineyard in the commune of Bussia - one of the most highly rated of all. Firm, aromatic nose, showing red berries, delicate herbaceous and spicy nuances, hint of black berries, dried floral notes and mushrooms. Clear, bright, tart and juicy fruit with light roasted nutty notes and tobacco. One to enjoy now or will happily cellar for 10 years plus.

An absolute delight from the Burgundy masters, Domaine Faiveley. Overt notes of plump raspberry and wild strawberry and summer fruit compote in this stunning single-vineyard gem from southern Burgundy. Lithe and fresh, yet with a real breadth of palate, evoking comforting woodland notes of blossom and sweet earth, boysenberry and wild plum. Enveloping and sensuous and very delicious. A firm favourite for us in Burgundy.
